For a decade or more, British Jewish teachers have been feeling increasingly frustrated by anti-Israel and (sometimes) anti-Semitic views being expressed in their unions. Many have resigned in disgust. That’s the background to today’s story, reported in the Jerusalem Post, that the leading organizations of the British Jewish community have begun to call upon Jewish teachers to join or rejoin their unions, in particular the National Union of Teachers (NUT). The NUT is currently affiliated to the pro-Hamas Palestine Solidarity Campaign, as is the University and College Union (UCU), which pioneered the academic boycott of Israelis in the UK. The Board of Deputies and the Jewish Leadership Council are behind the call.
