The bimonthly mailing sent out by pro-labour NGO Kav LaOved (the workers’ hotline) is packed with information about the plight of migrant workers and asylum seekers in Israel, including both agricultural workers and caregivers.
Their reports speak for themselves and they highlight the need for effective campaigns in support of the most vulnerable workers — and a renewed, strengthened trade union movement in the country.
Proponents of the BDS campaign who seek to delegitimize Israel and focus entirely on the plight of the Palestinians are ignoring genuine social justice issues that are the traditional concern of the trade union movement.
In other words, in seeking to defend the Jewish state against its most violent and uncompromising opponents, we should focus attention on the real economic and social issues there and build international solidarity in support of groups like Kav LaOved that do such good work.
Unions and individuals that want to support their work are encouraged to do so — click here to make your donation.
