According to this report on Arutz Sheva — not yet reported anywhere else — former Histadrut head Amir Peretz has announced his candidacy to run for leader of the Histadrut in the upcoming elections in May. Peretz replaces Knesset member Eitan Cabel, whose candidacy was declared illegal when it turned out that he may not have been a paid-up member of the national trade union centre. According to the Histadrut, Cabel had not actually paid membership dues since 1996. Peretz and Eini were once a a close team running the Histadrut, but have fallen out in recent years.
