The news that unemployment in Israel is at an historic low - 5.5% - is important for several reasons.
First of all, that’s good news for workers in the country, both Jewish and Arab, because low unemployment means greater opportunities for unions to organize and bargain collectively.
Second, it emphasizes the failure of the BDS (boycotts, divestments, sanctions) campaign after a decade to have any real impact on the Israeli economy.
There are currently 176,000 unemployed people in Israel.
