The Palestine Solidarity Campaign has called for a vigil outside the Israeli embassy in London on Sunday to mark the first anniversary of Operation Cast Lead. The vigil will call for “an end to Israel’s siege on Gaza, and for Israeli war criminals to be brought to justice”.
It will not, apparently, call for an end to Hamas terrorism, nor for the Egyptian blockade of Gaza to be lifted. (The Egyptians have recently blocked the holding of an international Gaza solidarity march and are building a steel wall on the border with Gaza.) Among those supporting the vigil are a number of pro-Hamas organisations as well a number of British unions including
- Communication Workers Union
- Fire Brigades Union
- Greater London UNISON
- Public and Commercial Services Union
- Rail, Maritime and Transport Union
In addition, Thompsons Solicitors, the law firm most closely linked to the British trade union movement (its offices are located in Congress House), is listed as a participant.
